Hours

The exhibits are open from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Last admissions are 30 minutes prior to closing. We are open every day except Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.

Getting Here

Metro:
Take Metrorail’s Yellow or Green lines to the Archives-Navy Memorial-Penn Quarter Station. The stop is across Pennsylvania Avenue from the National Archives Building. You will need to walk around the building and enter on the Constitution Avenue side of the building.  

Bus:
Metrobuses stop at the National Archives on 7th Street near Pennsylvania Avenue and Constitution Avenue. 

Parking:
There is no parking available at the National Archives. Limited street parking is available on 7th Street and Constitution Avenue and throughout the neighborhood. Spaces are metered with a two-hour maximum. Visitors may also take advantage of public parking garages within a few blocks of the building.

Entrance Information

The general public entrance is at the corner of Constitution Avenue and 9th Street, to the left of the stairs. We have a staffed, wheelchair-accessible entrance at the corner of Constitution Avenue and 7th Street, to the right of the stairs. Service personnel in uniform or presenting a valid military I.D. and veterans with proof of service and their families and guests may also enter through the Special Events entrance on the corner of Constitution Avenue and 7th Street.

Visiting for a special event?

The Special Events entrance is at the corner of Constitution Avenue and 7th Street, to the right of the stairs.

Coming for research?

The National Archives Research Center entrance is at 700 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW.

Members of the National Archives Foundation and their guests may enter through the Special Events entrance at the corner of Constitution Avenue and 7th Street by showing their membership card. 

Advance tickets are available, but are not required for entry to the National Archives.


Dining and Shopping

Café

The Charters Café is on the lower level and is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. A seating area with vending machines and an ATM is open all day.

Store

The National Archives Store is open daily during regular hours. The store sells documents, prints, books, stationery, apparel and accessories, and other items.
